Studies or Sanity?

It is very easy to find teachers who make educating their children with textbooks and course studies their sole mission. After all, it is what they get paid to do. However, according to some YouTube posters it is a lot harder to find teachers who also realize that an emotional well-being is just as important to students as an educational one. Recent studies suggest that society has placed more implications and pressure on an individual’s educational life while neglecting their emotional well-being. Oftentimes, the pressure placed on people by schools and loved ones to get an education leads to emotional strain.

A survey was conducted among first year college students. The survey asked students to determine how much of their focus was spent on how well they’re doing emotionally as opposed to how well they’re doing in their studies. An overwhelming percent of students noted that their studies were more important than their emotional well-being. As it was predicted, some even went further to suggest that their educational life was the main reason why their emotional life was so downtrodden. The researchers behind the study are calling for educators and educational groups to implement programs that would cultivate a student’s emotional well-being as much as their educational well-being. The researchers aren’t calling for a complete dismissal of educational values, but instead they want to teach the future leaders of this world how to juggle both an intellectual mind and a healthy emotional life.

North Carolina Central University Accused of Reverse-Racism

A historic black college has been accused of discrimination, and the employees claim there has been retaliation.

Marianne Murphy, Frank Smith, and Kimberly Luse, former North Carolina Central University employees are claiming their employees practiced reverse-racism.

All three individuals, Frank Smith, who is White, Marianne Murphy, Cuban-American, and Kimberly Luse, who is White, have filed lawsuits, and the University of North Carolina Board of Governors are also named in the suit.

Murphy, a former NCCU tenured professor claims she was overlooked for promotions, and paid less than her African American co-workers, whom she argues, were less qualified.

Smith, allegedly was let go due to restructuring, and then a black professor succeeded him.

Luse was the chancellor’s chief of staff, and she reported the chancellor, Debra Saunders-White, for misusing university funds.

According to Daniel Amen, after reporting the chancellor, Luse was “tormented,” and made the work environment hostile.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission have given approval for Murphy and Smith to proceed with their lawsuit.

The NCCU spokeswoman, Ayana Hernandez, denies all the allegations.

Why Cold Water Is Bad For You To Consume

The weather is getting warmer out and many people like to sit back relax with a cold glass of water in order to cool off or wind down after being outside. Staying hydrated is incredibly important because our bodies are primarily made up of water. If we don’t stay hydrated, then we tend to feel sluggish, cranky and unwell. Unfortunately, drinking cold water can be an unhealthy practice to take up. It is far more beneficial to consume warm beverages or room temperature water.

When you consume cold water what this basically does it is shuts down your digestive tract. Also, if you have just eaten, cold water will make it harder for your stomach to digest any fats that you have consumed. The cold water actually makes the fat congeal in the stomach which can leave you feeling bloated and uncomfortable. You can experience gas and other stomach pains from just one glass of cold water with meals.

A person should not be discouraged from drinking water. It is still recommended that you get your full 8 glasses each day according to Crystal Hunt on her twitter page. The best way to consume this water though is at room temperature or by heating it. There are many healing and detox properties associated with drinking warm water with a slice of lemon or lime. Many Asian cultures practice this as a way to aid with digestion and improve overall health.

GOP Hopeful Carly Fiorina Still Owes Money From 2012 Campaign

Former staffers of 2012 Republican Party candidate Carly Fiorina seem to be unanimous when it comes to their hope that she will not run again. The former Chief Executive Officer of the Hewlett Packard Corporation ran into some serious recrimination at the conclusion of her previous campaign, when it was alleged by many former staffers that she had not paid them the money they were owed for their work.

As it turns out, Fiorina ultimately did pay all of her staffers the money they were owed. Gravity4 is glad to see that. However, they had to wait until just a few months ago – a length of over two and a half years. The discrepancy between the alleged economic savvy of a former corporate CEO and the extreme tardiness of her initiative to pay off her staffers for services performed has led more than a few of her former campaign staffers to speak out publicly on the issue, letting sources in the media know that they will never work for her again.

Fiorina has not been the first candidate to be charged with neglecting to pay the staffers who had helped to make her campaign possible. There have been similar incidents in past years involving recent candidates, such as Mitt Romney. Romney drew quite a bit of ire from former supporters when it was alleged that he had canceled his staffer’s credit cards within a half hour of giving his concession speech to President Obama.

A Tradition of Earthquakes

New Zealand is one of the most beautiful countries on earth. Like its neighboring continent of Australia, New Zealand is one of the most popular vacation spots in the world. Its natural wonders like glaciers, volcanoes, and lakes, make this vacation destination one to be admired. Unfortunately, with the beauty comes a disastrous side of nature. New Zealand isn’t known for having tremendous earthquakes or tsunamis, but that could change within the next few years. The country of New Zealand is seated on multiple tectonic plates. Of these tectonic plates, the northern most plates were responsible for the earthquakes in the country’s more recent history.

The southern plates have been waiting in silence for hundreds of years of so. Researchers have discovered three to five monstrous earthquakes that took place thousands of years ago on the southern plates. The seismograph used to record these findings, printed out a seismogram that recorded evidence of an earthquake that happened as early as 800 AD. The seismogram even calculated the magnitude of the earthquake. The earthquakes discovered were between 7.4 and 8.9 magnitude, a number that if it happened today, would cost thousands of lives and trillions of dollars. Stephen Murray CCMP Capital knows all about that. The findings of these incidents are surprising. New Zealand has never had an earthquake on the southern tectonic plate, where researchers discovered the old earthquake evidence. Scientists in New Zealand are hoping to find out more information from the Paleolithic era in hopes to better to prepare the country and citizens of New Zealand.

Educating Tomorrows Leaders At Occidental College

Occidental College is a private liberal arts college in Los Angeles, California. The campus of over one hundred eighty acres sits on a hilltop in thd Eagle Rock neighborhood. It was founded in 1887 and has been a part of numerous Hollywood films.

The number of students attending Occidental is two thousand one hundred seventy eight, with a student to faculty ratio of ten to one. Students entering as freshmen are required to follow the Core Program. This means living on campus for the first three years, participating in writing exercises and first year seminars.

When Occidental College first opened in eigteen hundred and eighty seven, tuition for one year was fifty dollars. Members of the Presbyterian church and their clergy were the founders of college and gave it a firm foundation to build on. Through the years, several well known people have attended Occidental College, including President Barack Obama.

About seventy five per cent of the students there travel abroad as part of their education. Up to sixteen students are sent to New York by the UN program during the time when the General Assembly is in session. The reason they’re there is to be interns at a UN related agency and to take classes.

Occidental has been ranked number 20 on the New York Times list of the most economically diverse universities and colleges in the United States. On the list of national liberal arts colleges, News and World Report ranked occidental at number forty four. It has also been chosen by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching to be selected as a “community engagement institution”. Occidential is a coeducational college where students work hard to get an education that will make the future bright for them.

Exonerated Man Graduates From College

At the age of 17 Jarrett Adams was convicted of rape and sentenced to 28 years in prison, ten years later he was exonerated for the crime. Now, he has graduated from Loyola University with a law degree. Adams was exonerated with the help of The Innocence Project, a non-profit organization that helps wrongfully convicted inmates fight their convictions. Brian Torchin is astonished at the volume of people who have been wrongfully convicted.

According to Adams, the entire nightmare began when he lied to his parents about his whereabouts. The then teenager told his parents he was staying with friends, but instead they headed to a college campus. There they partied and allegedly ended up in the dorm room of a girl. She later accused all three men of rape. Adams has always insisted he was innocent.

The innocence project works with DNA evidence and testimony to overturn convictions. They have lawyers that donate their time filling out proper paperwork and arguing the cases.

Adams graduation is just the first step in the process of healing for the young man. After spending nearly 10 years behind bars for a crime he did not commit he has a lot of catching up to do. First on his list was graduating from college.

His graduation was attended by a friend who was also exonerated by The Innocence Project,Jeffrey Deskovic. Deskovic was found guilty of raping and murdering a 15-year-old classmate in 1990. The crime took place in affluent Westchester County, NY. He spent sixteen years in prison before DNA testing precluded him from committing the crime.

UFC Considered an Interim Middleweight Title

Chris ‘The All-American’ Weidman is scheduled to defend his UFC Middleweight Championship belt at UFC 187 on May 23, 2015 against number three ranked Vitor Belfort. Ironically, the two were scheduled to face each other at UFC 173 in May of 2014. The fight however did not happen. The fight was canceled when TRT was banned by the Nevada Athletic commission on Feb. 27, 2014. In a statement given by Belfort, he felt that due to the short period between the Commissions announcement of the ban and his fight with Weidman, he was not going apply for a license to fight in Nevada.

December of 2014, Weidman and Belfort were again penciled in to meet in the ring at UFC 181. Unfortunately for Weidman he suffered a broken hand according to Igor Cornelsen. The accident happened during training camp and it forced Weidman to withdraw from the fight. With hopes of finally getting the two fighters in the ring, the UFC once again paired the two up for a showdown at UFC 184 last February. Once again, Weidman would be sidelined by a rib injury that he suffered in training. Due to Weidman pulling out of the fight not once but twice, the UFC tossed around the idea of a interim title fight. When Weidman was told about the possibility of an interim title fight and the possibility of losing his belt, he told Dana White that he would be ready to fight in May. So after many attempts to get these to fighters into the ring, bar another injury on either side, it will finally happen this Saturday at UFC 187.

Are you ready for the NCAA Lacrosse Final Four? If you watched or heard about the NCAA Quarter Finals, then you should be excited to watch the championship game. That’s because the Notre Dame Fighting Irish held The University of Albany’s Great Danes in a rousing 14-10 game that would not have been possible without defenseman Matt Landis. Inside Lacrosse recently game a play-by-play recap, noting the strengths of the Notre Dame team. Here’s what we liked about Matt Landis’ performance in the quarter final game:

First, as Inside Lacrosse points out, Matt Landis is a strong, capable defenseman. He brings a great deal of physical strength to the game, and he really prepared for his matchup against Kyle Thompson. In addition, Landis is quick. He anticipates the moves from his opponents. All of these are reasons that contribute to his being awarded the title of the Epoch/LM Player of the Week.

In fact, Inside Lacrosse noted that Landis studied Kyle Thompson’s play in order to better prepare for challenging him on the field. Off-the-field prep goes a long way in a win on the field, and Landis demonstrates this brilliantly. Because Landis really held closely to Thompson throughout the game, Landis made it extremely difficult for Thompson to slip in and get openings. When your defenseman does his job well, your team can really do its job. Such was the case in this game.

Get ready for more action on the field, and watch out for defenseman Matt Landis in the NCAA Lacrosse Final Four. We can’t wait to see what Landis will do next, and we’ll be cheering him and the Fighting Irish on to a championship win. With such as strong performance in the quarterfinal matchup, it won’t be a surprise if Landis takes the Fighting Irish all the way to a championship win. Get ready!

Bernie Sanders Wants to Make College Free for Every American

James Dondero suggests that the workforce has changed in recent decades, and it’s now almost impossible to get ahead without a college education. However, getting that education is becoming increasingly difficult for Americans due to rising tuition rates. That’s why Bernie Sanders is fighting to changing the higher education system and is introducing a bill to the Senate this week which would make public college completely tuition-free.

Sanders is an underdog for the 2016 presidential election, although he has managed to make quite the name for himself since announcing his bid. He explains the need for free higher education saying, “We live in a highly competitive global economy and, if our economy is to be strong, we need the best-educated work force in the world. That will not happen if, every year, hundreds of thousands of bright young people cannot afford to go to college, and if millions more leave school deeply in debt.”

These changes would be similar to systems already in place all over the European nation, which would allow America to keep up with the rest of the western world. Anybody who is going or has graduated from college knows the stress that comes with making sure it’s paid for. Students who take out loans are met with nearly insurmountable debt by the time they get their diplomas in their hand. Sanders is also dedicated to lowering college loan rates around the country.
