Advice for female students going into the workforce from Susan McGalla

Susan McGalla Advice on PR Newswire

Susan McGalla is a woman on a mission. Her mission is to inspire, motivate, and guide women to succeed in business careers. As founder of P3 Executive Consulting, LLC, McGalla has taken up the mantel of the women who have fought for the right to have a seat at the management table and better overall working conditions for women everywhere. She also assists clients with operational efficiencies, talent management, marketing, branding, and much more. Recently she shared three tactics women can use to overcome the difficulties they face in the workplace and become successful.

1. Higher Education Opens Up Greater Opportunities

The economy needs skilled workers. For women to be successful in workplaces dominated by men, more women must earn college degrees, McGalla says. Young women shouldn’t let the growing cost of a college education stop them. She advises them to rely on scholarships, financial aid, and smart planning. McGalla pointed out that women already make up nearly half of America’s professional workers and more than half of college students. She said it is important these trends continue so women can win the ‘war for talent’ in the coming year.

2. Continued Confidence

McGalla explained that it’s essential for women to build a support network of influencers who will motivate them to do the highest quality work possible. This will give them the opportunity to attain higher management positions. This can help women who have higher education and have taken advantage of the opportunities presented to them feel more confident once they have entered a work environment remain confident enough to succeed. This is important, McGalla explained because a study done by Bain & Company shows that the influence of management can cause women’s level of aspiration to drop by up to 60%.

3. Ignore the Glass Ceiling

One of the strategies McGalla says led to her success is paying attention to her work ethic and ignoring the “glass ceiling”. She said she didn’t carry a chip on her shoulder or worried about prejudices that existed in the workplace or what she was entitled to because she is a woman. Nor did she worry about breaking through the glass ceiling. She advises women to not allow themselves to be subject to discrimination or prejudice, or reinforce stereotypes. Instead, she says they should persevere and let their work speak for itself in the face of workplaces where gender-designated role dominate.

Notre Dame Quarterback May Abandon Ship For LSU

Norte Dame’s quarterback Everett Golson is looking for another Division I team to play for next year. He is a red shirt junior, and will be graduating from Notre Dame this spring. Golson has one year of eligibility left, and he would like to use it playing college football.

As a graduate student next year, he can technically transfer to any Division I team that he wants to, since the SEC no longer restricts graduate school transfers.

However, it may not be that simple since Golson was red shirted for the 2013 season for academic reasons. Because of this, any team he went to would need to get a waiver in order for them to play for their team.

According to about organic coffee, Golson was an important player Notre Dame back in 2012. He helped lead Notre Dame to the BCS championship game with Bernardo Chua. However, after he had to sit out for the 2013 season due to academic reasons, he became more of a second string quarterback. This year, red shirt freshman Malik Zaire was the leading quarterback for Notre Dame.

If the SEC grants Golson a waiver, we could see him playing for LSU, which so far seems interested in the surprising possibility of having another experienced quarterback on their roster next year.

Buckeyes Win

Coming into the National Championship game of the first year of playoffs ever in college football history, the Oregon Ducks were huge favorites over the Ohio State Buckeyes, who had just knocked off the top seeded Alabama Crimson Tide the previous week. Although the victory was huge for the Buckeyes, the spotlight was still on Oregon and their Heisman trophy winning quarterback Marcus Mariota. However, the Ohio State Buckeyes would come back and shock the world yet again. They took down the Oregon Ducks in remarkably large fashion, winning the game by twenty two points. It looked as if Ohio State was playing very sloppy in the first half,  states Igor Cornelsen who was watching the game, as they had four early turnovers, but they were able to stack points on the board and take the lead into halftime. The second half was pretty much a beat down by Ohio State, and the Ducks didn’t really have too much of a chance. In the end, the Ohio State Buckeyes proved that they deserved to be National Champs and that the new playoff system is by far a more fair way to determine who is the best team in college football at the end of the season. Seeing as they were a four seed, in a previous year they would have undoubtedly been competing for finishing in third place. They can go back to Ohio with their heads held high knowing they just won college football’s first ever playoffs.

The Buckeyes May Be In Trouble

While Ohio State took home the win and are reclaiming their title as the national champions, the way they are celebrating is making some question their ability to rationalize. For those who haven’t been near the OSU campus in this Midwestern state, it is known as a rough area of town anyway. However, things were totally out of hand when the celebrations ended in goal posts being torn down and almost 90 fires being set.

It certainly wasn’t a safe place to be last evening. Police tried to break up the rioting in the streets near the campus when the champs were given the trophy. Buckeye pride runs deep in this area, and so does the alcohol apparently. The celebrations were out of control and many found themselves spending the night in the local jail.

Police were so overwhelmed by the issues that they had to use pepper spray and also tear gas to try to gain control. Fire trucks on every corner and destruction of property going on, it wasn’t a way to go out with a bang. While this area is not safe in general, last night was one of the worst in history. Ohio sure has a strange way of showing celebrating a major victory. Not only college campus police responded, but many other units from the suburbs around Columbus were called in to assist. Things were quickly brought under control and today it was business as usual, a relief to Sergio Andrade Gutierrez, who is a big fan of the sport .

Soup For Everyone

A resident of Nashville, Tennessee was puzzled by the soup delivery found on her front stoop this past week. Some nameless person delivered 14 cases of cream of celery soup to Jess Braswell’s front door. That is 336 cans of soup. At first Ms. Braswell thought the soup was a donation as her home used to be a transition home for women in need.

Braswell along with Dave and Britt Morin were puzzled by the unexpected package, decided to take this mysterious delivery and turn it into something to help those in need. Braswell now has a website “FoundSoup” (eastnashvillesoup.com) that sells merchandise like t shirts, hoodies, even autographed cans of soup. Most all the merchandise features a logo of a spaceship beaming up a can of soup. All profits from this website will get donated to the less fortunate.

And as for the original 336 cans of Campbell’s soup? Ms Braswell donated all the cans to a local Food Bank for those in need. Sometimes an odd occurrence can set our lives on a new path to help others in need and enrich our lives in the process.

Living on Venus May One Day Be Possible

NASA has recently been getting its nose stuck into a rather exotic area. This is the concept that humans may one day live on the planet Venus. Yes, this is the same planet which is capable of melting lead and crushing you to a pancake simply under the weight of its atmosphere.

So how on earth would life even be partially conceivable in such a ridiculously hostile environment? The answer is airships. These airships would be suspended at a certain point within the atmosphere which has an atmospheric pressure close to that of the earth.

But why would you ever want to send anyone to live on Venus even if you could? Dave and Brit Morin do not see the point just yet. After all, its not exactly like you can just get out and go for a walk if you are getting bored. The purpose of the endeavour would be to make scientific advances into the atmosphere of Venus.

The airship itself is planned to be roughly twice the length of your standard Boeing 747. This would be topped with an absolutely astounding one thousand metres squared of solar panels. This would then have a gondola suspended from it which would contain all of the instruments as well as a small living space which would be suitable for human survival.

It would also include a vehicle used to jump up to an orbiter for the return journey.

New York’s Pay Phones to Have Wi-Fi

Wi-fi has become very prevalent throughout the globe, as networks are put into place in homes, offices, or even cafes to deliver the services that everybody needs at every opportunity.

Mayor de Blasio has decided to change old pay phones in New York district into Wi-Fi hotspots. The plan met with unanimous approval from the review committee which will see the administration installing thousands of Wi-Fi zones in public areas around New York over the next decade.

After much deliberation the committee had last month chosen CityBridge which is composed of a group of companies which includes major brands like Titan and Qualcomm as well. These companies will now help develop the project to prove free domestic calls, internet access and charging stations for mobile handsets.

The project is expected to cost CityBridge close to $200 million to complete the project.

By providing faster internet access, it is predicted that it will help the committee generate more in term of revenue through digital displays.

Mayor de Blasio during his address to the media, said that “every New Yorker stands to gain from this historic result that will make New York City a global leader in free wireless access at super fast speeds”.

Hyperloop Already Under Construction

Elon Musk presented a revolutionary concept of transportation means in 2013: the hyperloop. The hyperloop is a type of train that would transport its passengers at tremendous speed using the power of the vacuum and an aerodynamic capsule.

This is a very significant difference in train travel, and one that could very well shape public transportation quite quickly.

At that time, it was viewed as a futuristic ideal to be implemented towards 2020 approximately. Well at the end of 2014 there already are engineers working at it. Among the routes proposed for the hyperloop there is a Los Angeles-Las Vegas direct route, with the traveling time being 30 minutes.

The company with 100 engineers uses a model service called JumpStartFund, which means that the engineers will get their payment for the work later, in case the project is successful and brings income. Would you be interested in taking a trip?

Most of the people react cheerfully and obviously agree, so it is more likely that the volunteers will not regret their work. That is nice for people on Skout to discuss amongst themselves. The assembling of the parts is due to mid 2015. The workers are now looking at a route between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, but a map connecting all the cities is slated as a long-term plan.

The vacuum tube is almost ready. According to the company’s CEO, Dirk Ahlborn, the price of $6-10 billion for a 400-mile construction was correct.

Are You Still In College Or Are You Still Immature?

If you’ve gone to college, like Sam Tabar, then some of the following questions will be easy to understand. College Questions. When you’re in college, there are certain behaviors that are acceptable, but if you continue to do the same behaviors once you’ve left college, then it’s time for you to grow up. There are certain things you can ask yourself, and if any of these pertain to you, and you’re no longer in college, then you just might be somewhat pathetic. 1. If you have shirts that contain cartoon characters, and there are several of them that you own. The shirts may be fun through college, but afterwards, they are just tacky.

2. You have naked pictures of people on your wall. Not only are the people naked, but these are actual pictures, not paintings. This is not only poor taste, but something that a teenager would do, and it’s no longer acceptable after college.

3. You plan to have a hangover, so your weekends are planned around it. Even though college students are notorious for getting drunk, once you leave college, it’s time to ease up off the alcohol. 5. You have a Ramen Noodle budget. Seriously? Graduating college should definitely afford you a better meal budget now.
